Is infusion therapy safe?
Infusion therapy is a safe and effective treatment option when administered by trained healthcare professionals in appropriate settings. Before undergoing infusion therapy, it is essential to have a thorough discussion with your healthcare provider to understand the potential risks, benefits, and any specific considerations related to your individual health condition.
What are the side effects of infusion therapy?
Infusion therapy, like any medical treatment, may have potential side effects, although they vary depending on the specific medication or fluids being administered. Common side effects associated with infusion therapy include allergic reactions, infection, fluid overload or dehydration, and medication side effects. It is crucial to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about any side effects or concerns you may experience during or after infusion therapy.
What can I expect on the day of my appointment?
Please arrive at your first appointment well-hydrated and wearing comfortable clothes. You will have access to Wi-Fi, movies, and streaming services. We will also provide you with comfortable recliners, snacks, and warm blankets, if needed. The length of your infusion time may vary based on the medications you are receiving.
Who will administer my infusion therapy?
At Wellscript, a highly-trained, licensed nurse will explain what to expect during your treatment and administer your therapy. Our nurses work collaboratively to ensure the safe and effective administration of infusion therapy. They follow established protocols, guidelines, and best practices to minimize risks, monitor patient well-being, and address any concerns or complications that may arise during the treatment.
Are infusions painful?
The level of pain experienced during an infusion can vary depending on several factors, including the individual's pain tolerance, the specific medication or fluids being administered, and the technique used for catheter insertion. The initial insertion of the catheter into the vein may cause some discomfort or a brief pinching sensation. However, Wellscript’s healthcare professionals are trained to minimize discomfort by using techniques that are as gentle as possible. While some individuals may experience minor discomfort during infusions, the overall goal is to ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
